Getting a little extra weight off normal weight, even 6 pounds, or 2 pounds, over seven years can damage your heart, according to a new study published in the American Heart Journal.

Researchers at the University of Southwest Texas tracked 1262 adults for 7 years, analyzing their body fat and heart health.

The average age of participants was 44 years and all were healthy and without any disease that could increase their risk of developing heart disease.

After 7 years of follow-up, the results showed that those who scored a slight increase from normal weight to less than 5% were more likely to have left ventricular hypertrophy, a major feature of future heart failure. Those who lost weight were more likely to exhibit lower heart muscle thickness.

The results also showed that fluctuations and weight gain even on physically fit people had clear effects on the health and strength of the heart muscles.

The study comes a day after a Harvard study showed that gaining weight can dramatically increase the risk of chronic heart disease. Researchers recommend maintaining weight stability and eliminating excess weight so that increases do not lead to adverse heart changes.

But in the end, the researchers also reported that the study was relatively small. The results did not mean that anyone who gained a small amount of heart failure was necessarily involved, but that does not prevent weight changes from affecting the heart muscle, which in turn can affect its function.
